The Abia State Government says its attention has been drawn to a mindless and cowardly attack on a police station in Aba by yet to be identified armed hoodlums in the early hours of Tuesday, leading to loss of lives.

The government also confirmed that arms and ammunition were carted away in the attack.

The state government assured members of the public that it is working with security agencies to fish out the perpetrators of the dastardly crime and bring them to justice as quickly as possible.

In a press release signed by the State Commissioner of Information, Chief John Okiyi Kalu and made available to newsmen on Tuesday, in Umuahia, the state government maintained that no part of Abia land will be ceded to criminals operating under any guise, adding that it would not spare any resource in ensuring that the perpetrators of the crime are brought to book and the stolen arms and ammunition recovered completely.

DAILY POST gathered that the hoodlums stormed the station at about 2:30 am, Tuesday morning.

When contacted, the Police Public Relations Officer in the State, SP Geoffrey Ogbonna told DAILY POST that some of the hoodlums were gunned down while others escaped with injuries.

However, according to the Abia government’s release, “sadly, the arms these hoodlums have carted away from law enforcement agents will most likely be used against innocent citizens.

”The government, therefore, calls on citizens to avail law enforcement agencies with vital information that will lead to the arrest of the criminals and recovery of these arms

“We are determined to pay N1m for any information leading to the recovery of any of the stolen arms and or arrest of any suspect. Anyone with such information can contact this number: +234 803 914 8294.

“Such information will be treated with the utmost secrecy it deserves, “it concluded.
